Alexa & Mateo E-session – McAllen, Texas – Ben Briones Studios

A few months ago I had the crazy idea that i wanted to shoot a full fledge wedding in 35mm film! Right around this time my friend Alexa had gotten engaged to her handsome fiancé Mateo, so I reached out to her and offered her free photography services for her wedding if she allowed me to shoot it completely in film.

Like any photography package I offer I always like to shoot engagement photos too! Today I got back the developed imaged from my rolls and the photos are beautiful! Out of 3 rolls at about 35 frames each I was able to produce around 23 gorgeous images of the couple. I shot with two cameras; my Canon AE1 and Nikon FM10 using Kodak and Fuji Film.

Here are my favorite 12 images that honestly sum the beautiful photo session of the couple!

The very amazing and talented Stephanie Rios Photography is the contracted photographer for the couple and I am just shooting for personal growth.001304590002001304590008001304590010001304590014001304600014001304590020001304590026001304590027001304610008001304610012001304610016001304610019

Nick Cruz – UTRGV Graduate – Ben Briones Studios

Graduation is around the corner and one of the things that go along with walking across the stage is to take graduation photos to record the special milestone! My friend Nick Cruz recently setup a studio graduation photo session at my home studio located in McAllen, Texas and I love how the photos came out! Nick graduated in 2018 from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) but didn’t get a chance to take photos back then but we hooked him up. Here are some of my favorite shots from this studio graduation photo session. 2019-03-20_00092019-03-20_00102019-03-20_00112019-03-20_00122019-03-20_00132019-03-20_00142019-03-20_00152019-03-20_0016

Rodriguez Engagement – Encino, Texas – Ben Briones Studios

Have you ever heard of Encino, Texas? Yeah, me either! It’s that little town you pass by going 85mph that’s between Edinburg, Texas and Falfurrias, Texas. But a few weeks back  instead of passing through we stopped by and explored a bit and took some beautiful photos of this lovely couple. There is so much beauty out in the country, we even found lovely patches of Texas wildflowers. Just look at the bluebonnets in the shots.

This photo shoot was pretty cool. The couple are both EMT and first responders. They are literally real life super heroes saving lives! The couple lives out there in Encino and wanted to take their engagement portraits there because it’s their home and special to them. I am glad we did because just look at flowers! We shot on private property and at the local fire department. Check out the shots to see how they came out. 2019-03-24_00012019-03-24_00022019-03-24_00032019-03-24_00042019-03-24_00052019-03-24_00062019-03-24_00072019-03-24_0008

Mayra Vaquera – 30th Bday Shoot – McAllen, Texas

1989 was a good year! Turning 30 is a big thing and what better way to celebrate by moment than by taking badass photos? My friend of many years, Mayra, reached out to me for this special photo shoot to celebrate her upcoming birthday. She wanted something private, fun but grand to celebrate the big 3-0! We planned out the shoot to be studio and outdoor session. We did two outfits and a crown in studio and a beautiful black dress outdoors with her black Ford Mustang.  These are my favorite photos from her 30th birthday photo session. 2019-03-20_00012019-03-20_00022019-03-20_00032019-03-20_00042019-03-20_00052019-03-20_00062019-03-20_00072019-03-20_0008

Miguel and Deborah Engagement – Hidalgo Pumphouse – Ben Briones Studios

I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful couple last week. We chose the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse in Hildago, Texas for the special occasion. The Hidalgo Pumphouse is one of the cities’ special features and very popular for a photography spot among other things like bike riding, jogging or nature walks.

I love the colors the couple chose to wear for the shoot because they reflected a lot in the location so the the color pallet stayed cohesive. We utilized a few great spots around the property and these are my favorite shots from this engagement photo session. Enjoy! 2019-02-28_00012019-02-28_00022019-02-28_00052019-02-28_00062019-03-01_00012019-02-28_00092019-03-01_00172019-03-01_0011

Valentine’s Fuji Film XT3 Photo Shoot – Sara Yanez – Edinburg City Hall

Yesterday we tested out the Fuji Film XT3 in an evening outdoor setting and it did very well! We used a combination of ambient light, an eVOLV 200 with a beauty dish and an LED light. Fuji Film XT3 – Beauty Dish Studio Test with Sara Yanez – Ben Briones Studios

Sara and I rented the Fuji Film XT3 to test it out because we are thinking of buying ourselves a pair. Our first test was with a one light setup with a beauty dish on a pink seamless. Everything was shot in JPEG and we did very minimal editing or none at all one some of the shots.

I had to adjust the camera setting a bit before we starting getting good results. I had to remove the eye piece live view because I wasn’t able to see the shot because high aperture kept the view dark. I was also having trouble with the focus. I couldn’t tell if the shots were in focus so I setup the eye autofocus to help me. The the last thing I adjusted was the touch screen so I can zoom into the shot and check the sharpness. Those were the only 3 things that I had issues at first before figuring out how to fix them. Great camera for studio photography. 2019-02-11_00012019-02-11_00022019-02-11_00032019-02-11_00042019-02-11_00052019-02-11_00062019-02-11_00072019-02-11_0008IMG_7926
