Vanessa Silva – STC Grad – McAllen, Texas

This past weekend I was able to work with Ms. Vanessa once again. Vanessa and I have been friends for some time now and she has trusted me to document some of the most special moments in her life. Sunday we celebrated her achievement as a graduate from South Texas College with a bachelors degree through an awesome photoshoot.

I have photographed Vanessa’s maternity photos, her most recent birthday, her graduation portraits, and soon her family photos. Here are some of my favorite photos taken by myself and my team.

Maggie McCloud – UT Grad – Austin, Texas

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY 2010

While going through some old hard drives I found these beautiful graduation photos I did of my friend back when I was attending the University of Texas at Austin. They came out so great and I really don’t know why I haven’t showed them off! These are my favorite shots from this graduation portrait session in Austin, Texas.

Mother & Daughters Graduation – UTRGV – Edinburg Texas – Ben Briones Studios

A fellow photographer / artist and friend Mrs. Mari Lorenzon graduated this year with her graphic design degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. She had asked me if I could take her grad photos along with her two daughter’s who were also sharing the same milestone.

We photographed the girls at famous UTRGV campus. One of her daughter’s graduated kinder and there other high school. I love the idea she had to combine the photoshoots. Here are some of my favorite shots from this photo shoot. 05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0867_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0915_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0928_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-1014_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0909_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0953_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-0892_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-1054_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-1135_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-1123_WEB05.20.18_PRINT_Mari Grad Session_BBS-1149_WEB

Claudia Alaniz – Grad Portraits – Ben Briones Studios

In December thousands of students will walk the stage and be handed a diploma or degree that they worked so hard to own.  A year ago I photographed one of my good friends Ms. Claudia Alaniz in celebration of her hard earned degree. When we were planning her photo shoot she wanted something different, which I was pretty excited about because I love when my clients get creative. Claudia had a friend who has a ranch with some few random items scattered across the land, including a horse.

I think the location fit Claudia perfect because she’s so much fun. Check out some of these pretty cool graduation portraits we took of Ms. Claudia. These are my favorite shots from the photo shoot! 04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9474_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9510_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9576_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9620_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9709_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9739_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9797_WEB04.30.17_Claudia Alaniz Grad Photos_PRINT_BBS-9810_WEB

Graduation Celebration | Lora Lee Martinez | My Best Friend

Sometimes I miss my best friend but I know she’s enjoying her new life over in Virgina with her awesome boyfriend Tony aka TheLaoTieGuy! I was going through my blog drafts a few nights ago and I came across this draft and decided to write about this experience.

Lora graduated that day with her masters and she had planned to double up the celebration with her good friend Alessandra. Back in the day I use to carry my DSLR everywhere but now I rarely take it anywhere but this time around it was a milestone so I brought it out and captured these great memories. Today I look back at them and I am very proud to call Lora Lee Martinez my best friend.

Enjoy! IMG_8385IMG_8425IMG_8430IMG_8440IMG_8453IMG_8465IMG_8472IMG_8502IMG_8517

Suheily Maldonado – Edinburg, Texas – Ben Briones Studios

Here is a graduation session I did back in 2011 for Mrs. Suheily. I was extremely proud of the shots five years ago and I am still very proud of them today. Suheily is now married and has travelled around the world doing missionary work. What makes me more happy then the results of the photos, is the journey the people I photograph create for themselves after our last encounter.

Let’s start your journey by documenting this milestone in your life and academic career! I am very happy that I got to photograph Mrs. Suheily, because it’s people like her and many of you that continue to me to write and photograph and just tell stories. Although Suheily and I don’t talk as much anymore I do keep up with her via social media. How to have it all: when college and your photography career collide.

20140418-200231.jpg

When I got my final letter recognizing my graduation status as complete, I celebrated with an over-the-top-wear all your UT apparel-hook’em horns selfie, but I wasn’t always this excited to be a University of Texas at Austin Longhorn. There were days where I wanted to give up, pack my bags, and move back to my mom’s.  And that is because I was accepted into UT’s very competitive photojournalism program of which I didn’t complete. My best friend claims that I said, “I’m going to dropout and pursue photography full-time.”

So, why didn’t I?

The reason I didn’t drop out of school to pursue photography full-time was because a degree helps beyond school book knowledge. Ben Briones Studios would not be as successful as it has become without the experiences a college education gives you. It feels good to have a bachelors from a university ranked 22nd best in the United States and the 8th best public university and 30th among the words universities. Earning a degree period, should push you to become a better you. UT’s motto is ‘What Starts Here Changes The World’ and I truly believe I am doing just that.

Here are five ways my degree has helped me:

  1. Status; because I am a Texas Ex I have booked clients on that connection alone. #HireALonghorn
  2. Discipline; deadlines, exams, and studying has allowed me to reactivate my inner-student and apply it to my photography career. As  ‘pros’ we have multiple deadlines, we are faced with real life exams and photography is constantly changing so we must study to stay relevant.
  3.  Network; the lawyer who setup my LLC was also a University of Texas graduate and the day I went to pay the $2500 setup fee, it miraculously dropped to $700 because it was ‘3 P.M. and OU STILL SUCKED.’
  4. Knowledge; my last semester I took an Introduction to Accounting course as an elective, which I dropped a few weeks before graduation, but the knowledge I gained you best believe it has helped me manage my business finances.
  5. Confidence; college is scary but when you graduate you come out a totally different person. Confidence is built through relationships made on campus. Confidence is built through class presentations. Confidence is built when you walk on stage to grab that fake diploma and walk off stage without falling flat on your face in front of all your classmates, family and friends.

When college and your photography career collide.
