We took at Alyssa’s Graduation Portraits at the Edinburg City Hall and the Edinburg CISD Administration building. This area is one of my favorite spots for grad photos. Alyssa is a Vanguard Academy Beethoven graduate so these Edinburg buildings seemed perfect for her photo shoot. We shot the first 1/2 of her shoot with her cap and gown and the second 1/2 in a more relaxed outfit. I always encourage my clients to bring two outfits to any of my shoots for variety. I really love the way these photos came out. Check out some of my favorite shots from this graduation portrait session.

Yesterday’s [06.10.2009] photoshoot with Alyssa Pena was great. We shot at the abandon[ed] warehouse on North [Highway] 281, one of my favorite places to shoot. We used ambient light, a reflector disc, and [a] speed light. [We were] going for a more natural light shoot with her.
She is light skin so light rolls of her amazingly, plus her is just a great color as well, which gave of a lot of Rembrandt lighting, which always adds to a photo.
Alyssa is a just an over all beauty. Since she has had modeling experience directing her [was easy.] We moved around the [whole] warehouse and used different ambient light sources.
I’d say Things went really well. The only thing about this shoot that sucked, was [that there was a] dead cat and [it stunk up the place.] In all the shoot lasted about [a fun] 2 hrs. This photoshoot is probably my best yet and one of my favorites.
I hope to work with Alyssa more and create a lot of new photos for you all to enjoy.
Assisted by Lori Alaniz. Wanted to show off some of my older work re-edited so you can see what type of work I was doing back in the day. Enjoy!

This blog post is a major throwback to some of my first work! My good friend Diana is the subject in these photos and she did an amazing job even though I was a noob at the time. I think I shot these photos with my Canon Rebel XTi, which was my first DSLR. These photos date back to 2008 and it’s always exciting to look at my old work because it shows me two things; growth and passion. Tell me what you think of these in the comments.

The Huff’s had such a beautiful wedding that it would be a crime not to show off their wedding day story. The day started at there beautiful home where the bride, groom and their family got ready the big day. The couple then had a lovely ceremony at their home church in Edinburg, Texas. The highlight of the day was the reception which took place at the Museum of South Texas, which in my opinion is one of Edinburg, Texas best hidden wedding photography spots! Here are our favorite shots from this wedding!

We recently did a photo shoot with a local photographer for her 27th birthday. Things didn’t quite as planned but we made it work. She had a 27 gold balloons and sadly when we were posing her for the first couple of shots the #2 flew away. Heart broken about the loss of her balloon, she was a trooper and we continued the photo shoot. She chose this abandoned building in Edinburg, Texas, which worked out great for her style. Another challenge was that we lost the ambient light super super fast but I went prepared with proper lighting and fast glass. We used an LED and eVOVL 200 diffused by a translucent umbrella and these are the shots we got.

Tuesday night I tested out the Flashpoint eVOLV 200 with some friends at the Edinburg City Hall building downtown Edinburg, Texas. I rented the eVOLV 200 and PIXARPO 26in Collapsable Beauty Dish from a friend. The light was mounted on my Manfrotto Combi Boom Stand that was handled by my awesome friend and fellow photographer Lourdes Paz.
I only have this gear for a day or two so I needed to find some models to help. I sent out like 15 messages to friends and photographers and Audrie, a local videographer and YouTuber was the only one who replied and was willing to do it. Ms. Audrie Barrera and her partner Fern showed up and was ready to go. You can view Audrie’s show on YouTube and can be found at theaudreyshow.
My goal is to purchase a new smaller compact light that packs some power and the new Flashpoint eVOLV 200 / Godox AD200 are the latest thing to hit the market that fit those specs. I rented one from a local photographer because I really wanted to test it out before purchasing one. I currently shoot most of my studio work and wedding photography with my AlienBee B800 Flash Unit by C. Paul Buff but I am in the marketing for something new.
We shot around 8pm-9pm, there was very low light and the sun was pretty much gone, but there was beautiful ambient light so I already had a hunch that it would do well. The light has been out for a while not and it seems that everyone and their mother owns this light, especially all the Sony shooters. Nothing against Sony, I’m actually buying one soon, but they seem to be the super duo.
I have also notice those who usually shoot with eVOLV / AD200 are typically High-Speed Sync Shooters. HSS photos are those shots where the photographer takes the model / client to a beautiful location but shoots so open they blur the background and only the subject is in focus. Not my thing but that technique is useful sometimes. On to the review.
I like the amount of power this little thing packs as well as the minimal power you can set it to. Most of the photos below were shot with the light at 32, 64 or 128. I shot with high ISO’s because that’s my style. I did a little of HSS but mostly kept the shutter at 125. Oh I didn’t mention that I was using my Canon 6D with a Canon 85mm 1.8 and Tamron SP AF 28‑75mm. I don’t shoot with fancy high-end gear, I am still using the same camera I have had since 2012. The creative mind is the most important gear in my bag.
Another feature I love about the eVOLV 200 is that it’s light. Logging around an AlienBee plugged into a Vagabond Mini on a boom stand gets tiring, you got chords galore hanging and getting tangled up, and it’s just not as portable as it once was. The eVOLV only weighs about 1LB where the AlienBee weighs over 3LBs.
Lastly I took liking to the variety of accessories the eVOLV 200 / AD200 have available. I used the PIXARPO 26in Collapsable Beauty Dish ,which was super easy to setup The bracket the light sits in is super simple to use as well. I am looking forward to trying out the light bare bulb and the barn doors in bright daylight. Here are my favorite shots from last nights photo shoot with the eVOLV 200.

Photography and law one time collided in thought. A year or two ago I had the crazy idea of dropping photography to purse a law degree. Obviously, the photography career won but I still dream about becoming a lawyer one day and although it’s a far-off thought I still get to mix the both.
Today we photograph lawyers and I am okay with that. My relationship with the law community has been through the The Hidalgo County Bar Association, which I have had the pleasure of capturing their annual event.
This month we photographed O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath, a law firm located at 220 S. Jackson Rd. in Edinburg. I really love how the photos came out for these professionals. We had a simple two light setup with a dark gray portable backdrop. We used a warm tone gel to change the background color as per the clients request. Everyone was super positive and professional and it really reflects in their portraits.

I have photographed Ale and her family since she graduated from high school a few years back. They are very special to my heart! Looking at these photos you will only see two people but there are three! This family lost their precious mother a few years back and even though she’s not pictured, she is present in the love these two have for each other!
Today we focused the special bond Ale has with her amazing father. We shot in some of their favorite spots around their home and reenacted some poses from our previous family photo session. Ale is also seen in her U.S. Air Force because she wanted to take some photos with her dad before she leaves for her next assignment.
Ale I wanted to let you know that I am very proud of you. I love you my friend and wish you the best. Thank you for always having us around for your families biggest milestones.

Happy mother’s day to this beautiful Mom. She has to be one of the proudest mothers today! There is nothing more important than for a mother to see her children seeking The Lord. God’s greatest gift to a mother is her children and I was blessed today with the opportunity to photograph this special day for the Lucio family!
These two young men have amazing parents. Just from the few hours I spent with them I could see how well they are being raised. And after the first couple of shots of the family I felt the bond they share, the love that flows through them, and the spirit of God all over this family.
On this beautiful Sunday afternoon I present to you the Lucio Family!
