THROWBACK TUESDAY! (Yeah, that’s a thing.)
Two years ago we photographed one of my friend’s baby. They wanted to celebrate her arrival by capturing photos of her and together as a family. We photographed a few shots of the baby inside their home and then we took the family portraits in an empty field across the house during a beautiful sunset. Please enjoy our favorite shots.

When planning a family photo session one thing that you need to consider is the location. Living in the Rio Grande Valley we all know it’s extremely hot and sunny so when discussing the photo shoot with my clients I always show them locations that have both indoor and outdoor areas to shoot in. Now, most of the places are going to charge you to use them so you have to prepare for that as well. I have a rule with my clients; if the location is $100 and below I will pay for it, but if it’s more than $100 I asks the client to split the cost with me. I already have a location fee built into my premium portrait packages just in case we do shoot at a place that charges you to use it.
For this particular family photo session we used the very popular Memory Lane Photo Spot located in Mission, Texas. I love this place for family photos because it has both indoor and outdoor variety and the owners are super nice! The place is a one-hundred year old home with lots of character and well decorated. The inside has a beautiful wood finish with a staircase, a piano, and very nice furniture. The outdoors is lush with beautiful landscaping and rustic settings. I have used Memory Lane Photo Spot for all kinds of photos shoots including bridal, engagements, maternity, etc. Here are my favorite outdoor shots of the Zavala Family at Memory Lane Photo Spot in Mission, Texas.

We had a really fun time photographing this small but adorable family. Our session took place at Hummingbird Springs in Donna, Texas. Selecting the location was a big part of this session. The family wanted to go to a place that had the mission style home in the background. And was glad we were able to shoot at this location. Hummingbird springs has the beautiful greenery gardens on one side and their charming house on the other. Perfect for what the clients were looking for close to home here in the RGV.
Overall the session went great! It wasn’t a hot day as usual for being around 4, that was a major bonus. They wore super cute matching clothing that made the photos look every well put together. We just had a little hiccup when Little baby Ruiz got a bit fuzzy but we trooped on. I was even able to catch a big smile from baby Ruiz!

I have photographed Ale and her family since she graduated from high school a few years back. They are very special to my heart! Looking at these photos you will only see two people but there are three! This family lost their precious mother a few years back and even though she’s not pictured, she is present in the love these two have for each other!
Today we focused the special bond Ale has with her amazing father. We shot in some of their favorite spots around their home and reenacted some poses from our previous family photo session. Ale is also seen in her U.S. Air Force because she wanted to take some photos with her dad before she leaves for her next assignment.
Ale I wanted to let you know that I am very proud of you. I love you my friend and wish you the best. Thank you for always having us around for your families biggest milestones.

Back in 2010 this awesome family hired me to photographer their family photos. This was when the McAllen Convention Center was a hot spot for photography. What I still love about these photos are how happy they look together. You can tell they have a beautiful family dynamic.
My favorite shots are the ones with the Chevrolet Camaro. I think he had just gotten it then. What a cool car to own. I wonder if he still has it. Although I have not seen this family around much I do know they were amazing clients and I wish them the best!

In 2011 I took some family photos of the Avila’s. Ale, my good friend and Marisela’s daughter contracted me to document some beautiful moments of the family at their home. Ale was leaving to serve our country in the United States Air Force and was longing to get some images with her parents. That day, I met some of the most loving people. Marisela, is one of those people. This blog is especially for her.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Marisela’s 50th celebration. The party was held outside of her home. As you drove into the residence you could see mesquite trees decorated with colorful paper lanterns, floating birthday balloons tied to vases full fresh flowers, and a BBQ pit in full action. As the guests trickled into the party each person greeted Marisela with the most love and affection. My partner Adriana Euresti and I felt very welcomed and at home to be greeted in the same manner. The birthday girl was the life of the party as she played catch with her nephews, danced around, and celebrated like no tomorrow. One would have never guessed her age with such energy and youth!
I love being part of small home parties like this because you get embedded into the family. Because the environment was so inviting, the images reflect just that! These moments are just a small glimpse of what was a festive family birthday gathering.
