Beautiful. Bold. Intelligent. Studious. Adventurous. Strong. These are all nouns to describe Ms. Susan Sanchez, a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. I met Susy while attending UT through a mutual friend. She and I became friends and kept in touch and when it was time to celebrate the achievement of completing not only one but two undergrad degrees she contacted me to document this special moment.
It’s been a a few years since this photo shoot and Susy is now saving lives and keeping the people of Austin, Texas safe. I wish you the best friend. I am very proud of you! \m/

Recently, I had the honor of taking Chris Echavarria’s graduate portraits at my photography studio in Edinburg, Texas. Chris is a McAllen High School senior graduate, a trumpet player, and a member of the four time State Champion McHi Mariachi Oro! What made Chris’s portrait session unique was how he incorporated his personality and style into his photos. High school graduation is exciting! Bringing the future near and igniting that great anticipation for further successes and growth. Congratulations, Chris! May your future always be bright!

A few weeks back my assistant and I traveled to Corpus Christi to photograph this beautiful soul. Desiree is graduating from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christ and we took these photos to celebrate this huge milestone in her life. Ms. Chavez is originally from Mission, Texas but decided to go to school by the bay.
I have known Desiree for a few years now and she’s just such an awesome person. She’s full of puns, is a socially conscious, outgoing and very interesting. I think some these first shots really bring out her colorful personality. Oh and she has style as well. We tried to keep the shoot simple yet fun.
We actually started the photo shoot on the campus of the school, Texas A&M University–Corpus Christ. We photographed her in front of the iconic wave that oversees the ocean. Then we walked to an area on campus she loved most and then we finished the photo shoot downtown to a beautiful mural right before it poured on us.

With graduation around the corner for many colleges, universities and soon high schools, I can’t help to remember the excitement of moving on to the next milestone of my life. In my career as a photographer I have photographed many unique graduation portrait sessions in the Rio Grande Valley. I too once walked in my regalia and received two diplomas in my life time and I hope to obtain more.
This beautiful girl you see in the photos is a good friend of mine from high school. Seven years ago Ms. Sam Valdez was ready to tackle life and today she’s a successful and happy individual. These photos forever will be a record of that initial start to life as an adult.
If I recall correctly we did photographer her in her cap and gown but I am choosing to show these shots because just as much as the session is to highlight graduation it is also to highlight your character and were you will be taking that character. In this case Sam took her character to Texas Tech University the home of the Red Raiders! If you are graduating soon I would advice to take some fun unique grad photos for your memories. Thank you Sam for contracting me to capture this milestone in you life.

Ale has a spirit that is unmatched, a personality that is a addicting and a warmth to her soul that is has been passed down to her by her beautiful mother. For those who know Ale you know how animated she is, how contagious her laughter and how strong this beautiful young lady has grown to be. Ale and I became friends back in 2010 through mutual acquaintances and after serving her and her family through my business I don’t feel less than family with her. Truly special thanks to her mother for making me feel like a part of their family.
We barely knew each other at this photo shoot to be honest but she trusted me and I trusted her and these images were the results. From what I knew about Ale was that she was the most spirited Edinburg North High School Cougar on campus. She as also very popular and honestly talked to everyone and anyone. Another thing that brought us closer was our mutual love for photography. In her parents home; Ale’s room was completely covered in photograph she took from the floor the the ceiling. Anyone with that passion for documenting memories is on my top list!
Ale and I have a special bond but I truly cherish the bond her mother and I built in result of of this photo shoot. I write this with a heavy heart but Mrs. Marisela Avila with The Lord now and I know her family misses her dearly and I miss her as well. Sometimes I think Mrs. Avila and I became better friends than Ale and I ever did; no hard feelings Ale but you’re mom is awesome.
I really think I pushed my creativeness in this photo shoot. Special thanks for my shooting partner Lori Alaniz and Mrs. Avila for assisting. Without a doubt these have to be one of my best graduation photo set that I have done in all of my career. If I could title this body of work it would read; Mama’s Pride.

A true #throwbackthursday post right here!
In 2011 I was still attending The University of Texas at Austin finishing up my degree but that didn’t stop me from driving down to the Rio Grande Valley to serve my clients. Amanda and I went to school together at Edinburg North High School and when she asked me to photographer her graduation portraits I did not hesitate; even though I was 500 miles away.
Back then I was shooting the original Canon 5D and using one studio light on location with a octabox. Since then I have simplified my light setup but after seeing these beautiful images I may go back. Another thing I would do back then was try to shoot all my sessions between 1pm – 3pm to have explosive natural light and studio light. It nice to take a look at your older work and see how you have matured as a photographer.
The beautiful thing about this special person is that not only did I have the honor of photographing this milestone in her life, we also shot some head shots for her and most recently I helped document her wedding with Stephanie Rios Photography.

As a professional photographer is it always such a great feeling to sign a new client but what brings me the best joy is working with a returning client. These photos that I am featuring today are of Ms. Criselda Garza, who is graduating with a nursing degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Criselda is a returning client because I had the pleasure of photographing her beautiful daughter Krystal Molina in 2011 and I remember how much fun that photo shoot was, now the spotlight is on Mom. Ms. Garza is beautiful so it was not difficult at all to pose her and guide her during the photo shoot. I also had the detailed help of Ms. Sara Yanez, a recent graduation photo session client. Thank You Sara!
We shot these milestone portraits on the UTRGV campus where Criselda is a student. I decided to use a lot of the newer areas of the campus because of the greenery and colors. Criselda was a doll at allowing me to pose her in all these different locations. Congratulations on her degree and thank you for allowing us to document this milestone.

I am super excited to photograph and feature my first University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Graduate on my blog! Congratulations Ms. Karen Perez on your achievement!
Every time I photograph someone on this university campus it takes me back to my days as a student their. I use to walk around with my camera around my neck photographing nature and people and now I have the privilege to capture momentous milestones in graduates who too have walked the same campus as I.
The University of Texas Pan American, as it was once known, molded me as a photographer and really help me plunge into the world of photojournalism with the opportunity the Pan American Newspaper granted me. And even though it is now UTRGV, I know the leadership, professors and staff still hold quality education as its top priority.
Ms. Karen Perez, once again best wishes and thank you for trusting my brand to capture this milestone in your life.
Special thanks to Sara Yanez.
