Took these beautiful edgy portraits of my friend Hailey mid March in some cool spots downtown Edinburg, Texas. I really have been enjoying my Fujifilm XH1 and this photo shoot really allowed me to explore with it more. I set it up on a bracket mode, but not just any bracket mode. The XT3 and XH1 have a film simulation bracket mode so when you shoot you get 3 different looks plus a raw file. Some of the photos you see here are JPEGs straight out of camera.
For this shoot we used a mix of natural light, reflector and my Flashpoint eVOLV 200 strobe. Hailey is a “seasoned model” because she’s been in a few of my shoots at South Texas College. She did amazing at posing and was very open to our ideas as well. Loved the two outfits she chose. They both went well with the two locations we chose. Here are some of my favorites shots from this photo shoot. If you are looking into taking some fun portraits please fill out the form below.

Yesterday’s [06.10.2009] photoshoot with Alyssa Pena was great. We shot at the abandon[ed] warehouse on North [Highway] 281, one of my favorite places to shoot. We used ambient light, a reflector disc, and [a] speed light. [We were] going for a more natural light shoot with her. She is light skin so light rolls of her amazingly, plus her is just a great color as well, which gave of a lot of Rembrandt lighting, which always adds to a photo.
Alyssa is a just an over all beauty. Since she has had modeling experience directing her [was easy.] We moved around the [whole] warehouse and used different ambient light sources.
I’d say Things went really well. The only thing about this shoot that sucked, was [that there was a] dead cat and [it stunk up the place.] In all the shoot lasted about [a fun] 2 hrs. This photoshoot is probably my best yet and one of my favorites.
I hope to work with Alyssa more and create a lot of new photos for you all to enjoy.
Assisted by Lori Alaniz. Wanted to show off some of my older work re-edited so you can see what type of work I was doing back in the day. Enjoy!

Yesterday Sara Yanez strutted into our photo studio we have at Grindstone Coworking and demanded a portrait because she was wearing a new black dress she recently bought! She was lucky I had my camera ready to go because I had just finished documenting some events at Games of Texas in the morning.  Okay maybe even if I didn’t have my camera ready I think I still would of prepared the gear. I mean just look at this portrait… isn’t she just gorgeous? When Sara and I first met I would always take portraits of her and I think its time I start that backup again!
There is something beautiful about photographing your significant other. There are so many photographers who actually never show their girlfriend or wife off and that’s a little strange to me. I try my best to show Sara off when the opportunity arises. It also helps that she is drop-dead gorgeous and has amazing style. Men I say you bring your girl to our studio and have Sara and I conduct a beauty portrait session for y’all.

Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me if I was available that same day for a quick photo shoot and being the workaholic that I am, I agreed to take on this challenge.
I typically shoot the majority of the time at f/4 but this time I decided to go open up to f/1.8 to since we were shooting in an area that would have pretty busy backgrounds. The open f-stop worked out well because it makes the model the main attraction of the photo. Carolina is a photographer herself so working with her was pretty easy. She had all her posing down. She even would make her self laugh to get those natural smiles to come out. Honestly, I just focused on being sharp and capturing the moment.
It was definitely a fun quick photo shoot and these are some of my favorite shots from the photo session with Ms. Carolina Solis.

Yesterday I had an interesting soul enter my studio. Mr. Ignancio Mendoza Jr., a defense lawyer, out of McAllen, Texas. Mendoza is not your regular lawyer, he’s young, good looking and well educated but with that homeboy type feel.
Mendoza and I met through my friend Britny Rocha, who’s also a local lawyer and has done head shots at my photo studio. At studio during our photo session I got to know him a little better and the dude is pretty awesome if you need a lawyer give him a call. Mendoza has a new office at 10125 N. 10th St. Ste. A McAllen, Texas 78504 and can be reached at 956-287-4008.
These are some of my favorite shot from our head shot photo session. Enjoy!

I have photographed Ale and her family since she graduated from high school a few years back. They are very special to my heart! Looking at these photos you will only see two people but there are three! This family lost their precious mother a few years back and even though she’s not pictured, she is present in the love these two have for each other!
Today we focused the special bond Ale has with her amazing father. We shot in some of their favorite spots around their home and reenacted some poses from our previous family photo session. Ale is also seen in her U.S. Air Force because she wanted to take some photos with her dad before she leaves for her next assignment.
Ale I wanted to let you know that I am very proud of you. I love you my friend and wish you the best. Thank you for always having us around for your families biggest milestones.

Dallas has been the most difficult but cutest model I have ever worked with. She just didn’t care for photos. On the other hand; Ms. Jennifer was as Grace-full as she’s named. She flashed her beautiful smile in all her pictures while holding her furry love. Trust me…these photos may look gracious and dandy but that little fur-ball was really hyperactive but Jennifer tamed her well enough to capture some great shots.
I have photographed subjects with their dogs before but never with a cat. There’s always a first for everything right? Jennifer is from San Antonio, Texas and is a respiratory therapist. She and I became aquatinted via Instagram. One day we talked photography and she mentioned she wanted a photo shoot with her cat Dallas. If y0u know me. I am always down for an adventure. So we planned it and this is the result of that conversation.
This photo shoot made me want a cat even more. I have been eyeing Chartreux for a very long time now. Very happy to have met Dallas and Ms. Jennifer Grace. Enjoy these beautiful shots of a cat-lover.

I still remember the excitement of this photo shoot. The year was 2011 and I was still attending school at The University of Texas at Austin but frequently come down to the valley to do photo shoots and document weddings. This photo shoot was special. It was on a Sunday evening one summer day. I was down for a small break before school started and I and my friend Abby decided planned on taking some photos for her modeling portfolio. Well these images were the results of that Sunday evening.
We decided to try something new and shoot downtown Edinburg, Texas. We used the old build of the Edinburg Review because it had beautiful textured walls. I also love that we shot at the perfect timing known as the Golden Hour. It’s always fun to go back to your old work and just look at your growth.

To my beloved client the Kelley Family,
It has been such a pleasure to be your wedding photographer and now your family photographer. I still remember your beautiful baby girl from your wedding night and now look at her. She’s precious and so smart. Mandy, you are just getting prettier with time and we cannot forget about Mr. Shawn; he is a true gentleman!
Remembering this photo session brings so much joy to my heart. I felt at home and I truly had a nice time spending with your growing family. As I mentioned before, it is an honor to serve your family as a photographer. Thank you so much for trusting me, for believing in my brand and for feeding me! There is not really much more I can say but that I love you guys!
Sincerely,
Ben Briones
