Lately I have been featuring a ton of my older work. As a photographer, if you are persistent, your photography skills will grow as well. I love going back and looking at my stuff shot back in the day when my love for photography was blossoming into what it has become of it now and comparing it to my newest work. You will see the difference in technique and style. Some of it has to do with you now having better equipment but some can just be artistic direction. Here is a quick fun shoot I did with my friend Laura at UTPA back in 2008. Below you will see my “contact sheet” to see how many photos I took to get “the shots”. I believe I shot this with my Canon 5D (the original). Enjoy!

I wanted to show off these fun UTPA Grad Session photo shoot I did a while back. Ms. Gina had contracted me for her senior photos and I wanted to shoot them on the UTPA now UTRGV campus using natural light. If you know me, I usually carry around some mad lighting gear, but this time around we just rolled with a reflector. We also shot during golden hour which made the lighting even more beautiful. Check out the awesome photos we produced for Gina’s grad session.

Do you ever stumble upon some of your older photography work and you wish you knew were your negatives or RAW files where? This recently happened to me with these two shots. I remember clearly taking these portraits of my friend Christian somewhere between 2008 – 2010 but I can’t seem to find the negatives / RAW files.
If I recall correctly around this time I was using a Canon EOS Rebel G film SLR with a 50mm lens that my high school photography teacher had gifted me. I am also pretty sure these are film scans I took into photoshop to edit. Honestly I just watneted to share more of my 35mm work for y’all. Enjoy!

Between 2008 and 2010 I use to have this obsession with photographing butterflies. I would take my camera to school at UTPA and hang around the small butterfly park next to the chapel and just wait around for butterflies to land on plants and flowers. Once I transferred to UT-Austin I would continue my obsession capturing pictures of butterflies on my spare time or when I needed to have a chill moment. I remember walking around with my headphones full blast playing Sigur Rós and just getting lost in the moment looking for butterflies to photograph. Here are some shots I found in my old hard drive.

Miguel Garza is an actor and singer living in New York, New Work. In 2011 Miguel contracted us to take some simple head shots for him. We shot his photos at The University of Texas Pan American. We found a beautiful location on campus via the Education building were we took the majority of the shots. I requested he bring three tops for three different looks. We tend to take head shots by request so each head shot session with us is unique to how you will be presenting your photos.

Here is a graduation session I did back in 2011 for Mrs. Suheily. I was extremely proud of the shots five years ago and I am still very proud of them today. Suheily is now married and has travelled around the world doing missionary work. What makes me more happy then the results of the photos, is the journey the people I photograph create for themselves after our last encounter.
Let’s start your journey by documenting this milestone in your life and academic career! I am very happy that I got to photograph Mrs. Suheily, because it’s people like her and many of you that continue to me to write and photograph and just tell stories. Although Suheily and I don’t talk as much anymore I do keep up with her via social media.

With graduation around the corner for many colleges, universities and soon high schools, I can’t help to remember the excitement of moving on to the next milestone of my life. In my career as a photographer I have photographed many unique graduation portrait sessions in the Rio Grande Valley. I too once walked in my regalia and received two diplomas in my life time and I hope to obtain more.
This beautiful girl you see in the photos is a good friend of mine from high school. Seven years ago Ms. Sam Valdez was ready to tackle life and today she’s a successful and happy individual. These photos forever will be a record of that initial start to life as an adult.
If I recall correctly we did photographer her in her cap and gown but I am choosing to show these shots because just as much as the session is to highlight graduation it is also to highlight your character and were you will be taking that character. In this case Sam took her character to Texas Tech University the home of the Red Raiders! If you are graduating soon I would advice to take some fun unique grad photos for your memories. Thank you Sam for contracting me to capture this milestone in you life.

I am super excited to photograph and feature my first University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Graduate on my blog! Congratulations Ms. Karen Perez on your achievement!
Every time I photograph someone on this university campus it takes me back to my days as a student their. I use to walk around with my camera around my neck photographing nature and people and now I have the privilege to capture momentous milestones in graduates who too have walked the same campus as I.
The University of Texas Pan American, as it was once known, molded me as a photographer and really help me plunge into the world of photojournalism with the opportunity the Pan American Newspaper granted me. And even though it is now UTRGV, I know the leadership, professors and staff still hold quality education as its top priority.
Ms. Karen Perez, once again best wishes and thank you for trusting my brand to capture this milestone in your life.
Special thanks to Sara Yanez.

Once more I had the pleasure of photographing this very special person in my life; Diana Ibanez or A.K.A. Mrs. B to many of her past students from Edinburg North High School. My first photo session with Diana was for Christmas family photos with her boy. In this photo session Diana celebrates her second masters degree from the late University of Texas – Pan American. The success this woman has achieved is inspiring and I am always extremely thankful for how much she believed in me and continue to do so!
I present to you my photography sensei, Diana Ybanez!

Sara Yanez and I became friends about two-years ago because she knew a client of mine. I had taken some portraits of a good friend of mine named Roxy Rivera, Sara and her were both classmates at the University of Texas Pan-American so somehow my work of Roxy came across Sara’s view and we connected. Today Sara and I have continued to stay in touch and we give God thanks for our friendship.
One day Sara began telling me about her dreams and aspirations of becoming a christian singer. From what I knew about her she was already on her way there. Ms. Sara Yanez is a pastor and worship leader at her church New Hope Christian Fellowship Weslaco. She has given all her efforts in pursing a degree in music education from UTPA and now she has invested in a training program called AMTC (Actors Models & Talent for Christ), which is a non-profit ministry dedicated to making good bolder in film, fashion, music and theater.
Sara commissioned me to create this special video for her so that she can present on her GoFundMe account and promote on her social media accounts. Sara’s goal is to penetrate the entertainment industry and change the world for Christ and I am one-hundred-percent for her goal to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her many talents. Today I urge you to donate what God has put in your heart to help this beautiful talented young lady reach her goals of representing Jesus Christ with her God-given-talents.
