Ashley and Juan’s Wedding day began at their parents home. It was a special sight to see the couple getting ready with their family. The couple currently lives in Austin, Texas, where we took their engagement photos, so to be back home on such a momentous day must have been very exciting for everyone. The couple had a beautiful catholic ceremony at Holy Spirt in McAllen, Texas where we also took their wedding day portraits. On the way to their venue in San Juan, Texas we stopped at the Basilica Of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle – National Shrine to take more photos of the couple. Finally we ended the night with a beautiful reception at the gorgeous rebranded wedding venue now known as Hacienda San Juan located in San Juan, Texas. Here are my favorite photos from their wedding day.

Bianca and Tony Engagement Session – La Estrella Ranch – Mission, Texas

Last Monday I got to photograph this lovely couple at the La Estrella Ranch in Mission, Texas. When we met they were looking for something rustic and western and we picked the perfect location. Their outfits were spot with the theme they were going for and the couple really enjoyed the location.

Although not seen in the shots the ranch had a this very playful chocolate lab who kept bring her toy ball to us to play catch the whole hour we were at the venue. It was very cute. I love the red outfits the couple chose to shoot in when we had daylight and then they changed out to something more formal for the evening, which was perfect for the night setting. Bobby and Priscilla’s wedding was such a beautiful event from beginning to end. We started off with them when they were getting ready and ended the night with them eating menudo! The couple and their son looked amazing that day! We had previously photographed their engagements months back but capturing their wedding day was very special!

Bobby and Priscilla got married at Monica’s Banquet Hall in San Juan, Texas. It’s a beautiful venue off N. Cesar Chavez. They had both their ceremony and reception at this wedding venue. In between we took the couple to the Hummingbird Springs Hummingbird Springs outdoor venue in Donna, Texas for their couples photos. Here are some of our favorite shots from this wedding!

Everyone’s wedding is unique and this love story was extremely special! Perla & Fabian have been together for a long time and their love keeps growing. Nothing better than getting married close to Christmas time! This beautiful couple tied the knot surrounded with family and friends. The couple had their ceremony at the beautiful Sacred Heart Church in Edinburg, Texas. We then took the bridal party to the Edinburg City Hall and then the bride and groom finished their portrait session at a private residence.

About a month ago we photographed this beautiful wedding in McAllen for our clients Vanessa & Charles! They are such a loving and amazing couple. I really love how their photos turned out.

The couple got ready at two different places; the bride at their home and the groom at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel in McAllen, Texas. Vanessa and Charles then had their ceremony at The Gala Special Events Center. It was a small beautiful ceremony. We then took the couple to the McAllen Public Library to take unique wedding day portraits of them, which turned out to be very cool! The couple ended the night back at The Gala Event center where they enjoyed a reception filled with family, friends, good food and drink and fun dancing!

Onieda and Osiel – San Benito, Texas – Ben Briones Studios

Oni and I grew up together so being the photographer at her wedding was super special. I use to go over to her house to hangout with her brother Marco and play music. Many times we would all walk home together from our high school to hangout and on her wedding night we all walked together down the isle on her special day!

Oni and Osiel put their trust in my team and I to capture their special day and I think they will be pleased with what we produced. The couple had a beautiful outdoor wedding at Oak Hills Event Center in San Benito, Texas. The wedding started right at sundown. The wedding went into the night where the romantic setting of the venue really was on display. Some of my favorite shots were of their first dance and when they danced with their mother. Along with those moments here are some of my favorite shots from the wedding.

HHD to SSD to HHD – Ben Briones Studios

ADVICE FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

In 2016 I had a major hard drive failure with a 1TB Seagate and a 4TB Lacie, which were both regular Hard Drives. I lost client wedding photos but months later was able to recover them!

After that incident I went from HHDs to SSDs because they are much more reliable, faster and portable. Today I’ve officially gone back to HDDs and let me tell you why.

In the photography industry there is always innovation. Things get smaller, faster, better built, more intelligent and easier to access. In 2017 I had issues with the amount of space I had to backup my files. 1TB was not enough for the pace my studio was growing plus the amount of video production gigs we are booking. So quickly my 1TB SSDs ran out of space and we had to turn to the cloud to backup storage space. Files where spread everywhere and that was not safe. I was using both Dropbox Pro and Amazon Drive, plus a combo of different SSD and regular HD drives.

The issue is not that HHD are not reliable it’s how safe you keep them. Safety means not moving them, good enclosures and having enough space that you won’t have to be saving files anywhere else.

In 2018 we are working with 4TB of local HHD space for the year on RAID 1. We are also using Adobe Lightroom to backup and archive files because dragging and dropping files or folders from a mounted memory card to a hard drive is faulty. I advice all photographers to setup their Lightroom, Photo Mechanic’s or even iPhoto app to backup your files when you mount your memory card.

I can’t dictate how you should backup your files but I would give you this advice. Always back them up right after your shoot or event and double that backup because those pictures are one in a lifetime memories that you might not be able to replace.
